It’s handcrafted with top-grain leather and a double elastic closure that can be used as a pen holder. Simply secure your pen through the center loops on the back of the cover. Chemicals will weaken the leather over time. Be patient. Its ruggedness will grow in character with you.
Don't be afraid of a scuff. Lick your finger. Rub it in. The oils from your skin shape the patina's look over time. So go ahead. Handle it!
Avoid leaving leather for extended periods of time in direct sunlight or extreme heat. We recommend Rustico's Custom Designed Leather Cleanerfor additional leather cleaning and conditioning.

I first discovered Rustico when I picked up a small Field Notes cover in a museum shop many years ago. I just thought it was a really nicely built cover for on-the-go notes. Years later, I have purchased both the Standard and Pro versions of this A5 notebook cover in the same natural leather. Just like my Field Notes cover, these are nice, sturdy covers with really handy pockets. I use the Standard version to carrier the Leuchtturm 120gsm notebook for ink and watercolor sketching and the Pro version for carrying an A5 Midori blank sketchpad with a Rhodia 32 page dot grid book for notes. I thought the Pro version might be too thick but it is an easy carry and incredibly versatile for travel. I particularly like the pen loops on the inside where I carry a Lamy CP1. The Professional is worth the extra money for its versatility and the Standard is nice when you don't have as much room to spread out. The natural leather ages beautifully and the Apple Airtag pocket on the Professional is a really nice feature, particularly when traveling.
I’ve owned their leather 3-ring binder for over a year and the quality and durability is excellent. So I came back to purchase this journal and a few other items and they didn’t disappoint. Everything fits perfectly, folds neatly, and the engraving is super clean.
It's a beautiful cover and the craftsmanship is excellent. I like the double elastics which makes the notebook feel secure. I have 3 notebooks from Rustico and I love them!
